Before the Beginning

Hello! I’m Paige Chechele (pronounced check-ellie), and I am a graphic designer whose approach focuses on individualism and open-mindedness. My earliest memories involve a passion for the absurd and unexpected. I grew up in an environment that encouraged me to always question the normal and to normalize the questions. When I’m not designing, I enjoy other creative hobbies like playing guitar, upcycling clothes, drawing/painting, and doing puzzles.

I spent a lot of time in nature from the time I was born and learned to appreciate life in its many shapes and forms. Even as a child, I enjoyed consuming media related to anatomical oddities in plants, animals, and humans, and I was fascinated by unexplained experiences. My casual intrigue related to this type of media combined with my more active tendency to focus on logic and details in professional environments resulted in a tendency to describe myself and my interests as a dichotomy between the real and surreal.

So…how does this relate to my identity as a designer?

This balance between the real and surreal represents my inner monologue during the design process, where the “real” is a symbol for the refined deliverables and the “surreal” is a symbol for the myriad of ideas that lead up to that finalized result. I aim to express this unconventional pairing through my designs to curate deliverables and client experiences that feel authentic, unique, and relatable. I strongly believe that it is essential to have a thorough understanding and respect for norms, trends, and standards, but I also believe that scenarios exist where breaking the rules may be necessary. I thrive in spaces that value genuine connection and authenticity. I also find comfort in diversity and appreciate how even traditional interests are valuable as part of a unique identity.
